Overview & Reviews
More power for the 4.7-liter V8 and three new trim levels (SE, Sport and Overland) are on tap for this year. Also, several important safety and convenience options such as side curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, a tire-pressure monitoring system and automatic windshield wipers debut this year.
- Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
- Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

Love Hate Relationship - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By fort worth flyer - November 17 - 4:26 pmThe looks of this vehicle make you fall in love but the repair bills and time in the shop make you hate it. We bought our 2002 Limited in 2004 with 25,000 miles. Thank goodness for extended warranties. During the 2 years of ownership the vehicle was in the shop 8 times for something major. Climate control, engine cooling fan, window regulator(s), CD changer, hood struts, seat heater(s), you name it... it broke. The rear end was clunking and front end was making weird noises when we traded it AND THIS VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED! If youre going to buy it, get a good warranty or have several $1000s in an account to pay for the repairs.

Its ok but miss my ford - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By doug - October 14 - 10:00 ami traded my f-150 for this jeep because my wife and i needed a more family friendly vehicle when i bought it the ac wasnt working right and the brakes needed replaced which Chrysler fixed for free and put new rotors on the front. For someone who works on there own vehicles this is the perfect vehicle everything is pretty much easy to access. Just wished it had more cargo space and i love the 4.7 liter high output motor but to get maximum performance out of the engine you must use premium gas.

Its Still A Chrysler Product - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Gary Ciborowski - July 23 - 10:00 amJeep is noted for recalls and this one has had a few already. While I love the apparent fit and finish, there are obvious design flaws in Jeeps year after year. Certainly overpriced when optioned out. I think Ill find a more affordable vehicle when this one wears out. If you own one for just a couple of years, you may avoid the expensive repairs, but for long-timers like me, they will get you well before 75,000 miles.

2002 Overland - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By crhoof - June 13 - 3:05 pmI bought my Jeep a little under a year ago an Ive already up almost 20,000 miles on it. The truck now has 147,000 miles. I paid $5000 for the car and Ive already almost put $3000 into it in work. The truck has no, NO, resale value.. NOT worth the 12.5 MPG I average.. Terrible jeep customer service, and no worth while recalls. Ive had several wheel seals, drive shaft seals, speakers and heated seats replaced and Jeep says these are "not" common problems. Its pretty and comfortable but not worth time/money.. Save yourself and your money

Trade in or Nurse along?!? - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Exhausted - May 11 - 4:53 amI bought my Jeep brand new and now at 108K, its sitting at the dealership with a $2300 estimate. Just spent $800 one month ago. It was fine (except for the brake thing and the fuel injector issues) until it flipped 90K, ok maybe not so fine. List of repairs done: brakes 4 times - same warping rotor issue under class action lawsuit, starter, radiator, one ds window motor, hood shocks, 2 fuel injectors, battery. Now needs: tires, rear shocks, steering column bearing, rear axle seals & bearings, heater core, rear hatch shocks. Complaints: frequent trouble dis- engaging from 4WD, roof paint bubbled early, pathetic GAS MILEAGE!!

Theres Better Out There - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Graysith - March 4 - 12:00 amI bought this 8-cyl model as a lease, intending to keep it for 200K+ miles. Routine maintenance, no problems except rear rotors until 95K miles. Then front end going out (typical for jeep, due to BAD design flaw) and 4WD biting the dust... plus I had to put in new front rotors and front hub assemblies. I am terribly disappointed in the lack of high-mile dependability of this vehicle; my Mustang was better! No wonder the power train warranty is only to 70K. After reading other reviews I am now heading to a Nissan dealer; too much $$$ to spend on a vehicle with 97K miles. Owners, look out for that "magic" 100+/-K miles on the odometer, youll be in for trouble I guarantee it!

I LOVE MY JEEP! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By cclark10105 - February 16 - 11:46 pmThe Jeep was the only thing on the dealers lot that appealed to me. I went in looking to purchase a new car and feel in love with the used jeep! It has never left me any where and runs great plus I love the way it looks. The inside is a little plain and simple but over all its an awesome car. I feel safe in it. The only down fall is the gas mileage but that is the price you pay driving as SUV! All-in-all I am a very satisfied Jeep owner and dont see myself ever purchasing anything other that a jeep.

MY JEEP - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By hal - November 22 - 2:26 amThe Jeep to me is a Die-Hard SUV that seems to have the power and luxury that most SUVs just seem to lack. Even though the new Trailblazer that Chevy came out with has 270 horsepower, the Jeep just felt like it would leave it in the dust. Plus, the interior of the Chevy is just too tinny to me.

Nice car built badly. - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jeffjs - November 20 - 2:00 amIve never owned anything other than Jeeps. Ive owned a 98, 99 and 2001 Grand Chrokee. From day 1, I have a leaky sunroof, speakers (Gold Series) that crackle, an AC and overhead indicator light that does not work, memory seating for 2 that does not remember what the settings that are saved, balding Michelin tires after only 18000 miles, an an engine light that kept coming on (bad O2 sensor - replaced). Other than that, I love it! :)
